How many times you said: “OH MAN, IT’S SO BEAUTIFUL, I WANT TO SEW IT!” but then, you see it worn by the most marvelous actress and go “oh well, no, too complicated for sure!”.
Ebbene, con questa rubrica, vorrei darti uno spunto in più per cucire proprio quell’abito che ti piaceva tanto e che probabilmente non è neanche così difficile, ma che per tessuto e forma non ti sei mai arrischiata di provare.
Well, with this column I would like to help you to sew that very dress you always loved and that maybe it’s not that difficult either, but, you know, you simply couldn’t figure out the pattern pieces so you gave up.
Partiamo da un presupposto:
tutti i capi di abbigliamento partono da un modello di carta di 2 dimensioni. Ciò che li fa differenziare l’uno dall’altro è il tessuto, è la tecnica, è la costruzione. Però il modello in 2 dimensioni non sempre è facile da riconoscere: non sempre è facile capire cosa si nasconda sotto a strati di tessuto.
Let’s start from the beginning: each and every garment start from a 2 dimension pattern. Every garment is different from each other by fabric, techniques applied, and its construction. The pattern you have under a finished garment is not easy to spot, though: fabric, drapes, etc can be confusing sometimes.
Con un disegno tecnico invece, si toglie la patina dorata dal vestito dei nostri sogni e si arriva direttamente al sodo. Dietro le quinte vuol essere proprio questo: un aiuto per farti capire cosa si cela dietro ad un vestito iconico di modo che anche tu possa rifarlo per la tua prossima occasione speciale e possa andarne fiera!

L’iconico vestito Givenchy che ha lanciato nel firmamento della moda il Little Black Dress e Audrey Hepburn stessa, portato con una parure di perle sulla schiena, è il vestito che andiamo ad analizzare oggi. The iconic Givenchy dress launched in the fashion industry the Little Black Dress myth. Worn with a pearl parure on the back it or even without, if you ask me, is the dress we’re going to analyze today.
Com’è composto il vestito di Audrey Hepburn?
Il vestito è composto da:
- Corpino davanti con pince di vita con scollo a barchetta;
- Corpino dietro con pince di vita e tagliato nella parte superiore per creare un semi ovale;
- Gonna davanti lunga fino ai piedi proveniente da un gonna tubino base senza pince con aggiunta di tessuto per formare le arricciature in vita e spacco sulla cucitura sinistra
- Gonna dietro lunga fino ai piedi proveniente da una gonna tubino base senza pince con aggiunta di tessuto per formare le arricciature in vita e spacco sulla cucitura destra.
L’interno è foderato e la lampo si trova sulla parte sinistra e va dall’ascella ai fianchi.
How is made this pattern’s dress?
The dress is composed by:
- Front bodice with waist dart and sailor neckline;
- Back bodice with waist dart and cut on the upper part to create an oval shape;
- Front skirt feet long: it comes from a straight skirt with some fullness added on the waist area to gather and a tear on the left seam
- Back skirt feet long: it comes from a straight skirt with some fullness added on the waist area to gather and a tear on the right seam.
