Ciao e bentornat*! Era nell’aria da tempo e finalmente ce l’abbiamo fatta: la vacanza di cucito che tanto avevamo aspettato si è conclusa e sì, è stata tutto ciò che doveva essere e di più! Welcome back! It was around for a bit and we finally made it: the first sewing retreat is over and boy, what a magnificent experience that has been!
Si è concluso il primo weekend di cucito e raga: non poteva essere migliore di così! The first sewing retreat as weekend has come to end and it could have not been better than that!
L’idea di questo weekend di cucito l’avevo da tempo: mi è sempre piaciuto stare insieme, creare nuove connessioni in uno spazio sicuro e armonico, in cui poter crescere ed imparare insieme. L’idea era nata ad inzio 2020 ma come tutt* ben sappiamo la vita ha deciso che era ora di fermarsi e ci siamo fermati. Poi è arrivato il 2021 ed è arrivato il momento di ripartire e mamma che ripartenza!
I had this idea for a sewing retreat for a bit: I always enjoyed being together, creating new connections in a safe and harmonious environnement, where improving and grow together is not a threat. I cocooned the idea for a long time and beginning in 2020 I thought it was the best moment to organize it. Boy, I was wrong! But then 2021 arrived and it couldn’t have been better than that!
Weekend sogno o realtà? Dream or reality?
Prova ad immaginare due giorni con donne meravigliose, pronte a mettersi in gioco indipendentemente dall’età, con una passione in comune, il cucito, in un piccolo boutique B&B a Monzambano, vicino Valeggio sul Mincio.
Try to imagine a weekend/two days together with marvelous women, ready to put themselves out there, sharing the same passion for sewing in a tiny boutique hotel in Monzambano, near Valeggio sul Mincio, Italy.
Ora immagina una location impeccabile, con cibo superbo, un host gentilissimo e stra disponibile e immagina tutto il tempo per cucire senza sosta, fra risate, riflessioni, stoffe e allegria.
Now imagine an impeccable location, with superb food, a super nice and friendly host, and imagine you have all the time in the world to dedicate to sewing: no stops sewing, laughs, thoughts for mind, fabrics and happiness.
Ed infine immagina come tutto questo non sia stato solo un sogno ma si sia trasformato in realtà e siamo riuscite, tutte insieme a lavorare sul cartamodello del tubino.
And then imagine that all of this was not just a dream but it finally became a reality and we were able to work together on the sheath dress.
Che capo di abbigliamento abbiamo affrontato? So what pattern did we work on?
Abbiamo affrontato il tubino nella sua forma più basica, per concentrarci su vestibilità, difetti e modifiche di cartamodello.
We worked on the sheath dress on its basic form, to concentrate on ease, flaws when wearing it, and pattern modifications.
Ci siamo confrontate con calma e pazienza sui vari problemi che possono sorgere mentre si cuce: l’intramontabile “Niko, non me lo ricordo mai: ma qual è il dritto del tessuto?!?”; come cucire in maniera precisa le riprese; come applicare una paramontura pulita per rifinire i giri manica e lo scollo in maniera impeccabile per la versione smanicata; capire come funzionano le proporzioni dei corpi per capire meglio come funziona il cucito su misure; affrontare le modifiche di cartamodello su carta in seguito alle modifiche sul tubino; insomma due giorni belli pieni di nozioni e concetti.
We discussed with no hurry about all the things sewing related: “Niko, can’t remember selvedges: which one’s the right side?”, how to sew darts in a precise way, how to sew a facing in the most precise and smooth way when having a sleeveless pattern, how to-measure sewing works regarding body proportions, how to modify the paper pattern. I mean, two magnificent days.
E poi i classici:
“Come passa il tempo quando ci si diverte!”, “Ma ragazze, chi vuole un caffé? Glielo chiedo?”, “Dov’è che andiamo a mangiare stasera? Prenotato?”, “Nico, son stanca, vado a fare la doccia, ci vediamo a cena.”, “Abbiamo ripreso a viaggiare: posso prendere la cuffia?”, “No vabbè raga, guardate i fiori!!! Foto!!!”
And then: “Girls, coffee anyone? Shall I ask Michele?”
“Where are we going to eat tonight? Did you call the restaurant?”
“Niko, I’m tired! Going to take a shower, see you later!”
“We’re finally back on traveling: can I take the shower cap?”
” GIRLS, FLOWERS!!! Photo please!!!”
La nostra location – Our location
Il B&B che ci ha accolto per questo weekend è Corte del Mincio e si trova a Monzambano: il paesino di Monzambano è una piccola chicca, il B&B è un piccola oasi di pace, curata nei minimi dettagli dall’arredamento al cibo e ci ha fatto sentire come a casa.
The B&B that welcomed us is Corte del Mincio and is located in Monzambano: Monzambano village is a tiny little gem, the B&B is a cozy peace oasis, thoughtfully curated in all the details, from furniture to food and it made us feel like we were at home.
Musica soffusa, belle chiacchere con il proprietario Michele, insomma se stai cercando un piccolo angolino di paradiso, in cui tutto è scelto con cura, con attenzione e dedizione, è il posto che fa per te. E’ nel dettaglio anche il più piccolo, che capisci quanta attenzione c’è dietro.
Smooth music, beautiful chat with the B&B owner Michele, I mean, if you’re looking for a little spot of paradise, where everything is chosen carefully and with dedication, this is your place to be. It’s in the tiniest detail that you get the pulse of how much you care about something.
E’ vicino a Valeggio sul Mincio (Parco Sigurtà vi dice qualcosa?), è immerso nel verde, è comodo per arrivarci con la macchina, ha il parcheggio privato chiuso nel quale poter lasciare la macchina senza patemi, insomma perfetto.
It’s near Valeggio sul Mincio (Parco Sigurtà rings any bell?), it’s surrounded by the beautiful countryside, it’s easy to reach by car, it has a private closed park where you can park without worrying about your car being damaged. The definition of perfection.
Com’è andato quindi questo weekend? How did this weekend go?
Sono sempre più dell’idea che non importa quanti anni hai nella tua vita: quello che importa veramente è che tu abbia sempre voglia di metterti in gioco e provarci sempre.
Alla fine quello che conta, nel cucito come in generale, sei tu e la giusta compagnia.
Circondati di persone che abbiano un sorriso, una matita, camminino sulle mani, condividano le tue pazzie e il buon cibo.
Imparerai, con calma, a cucire e a sapere che sono stati due giorni e un weekend meravigliosi.
I’ve got this idea that it really doesn’t matter how old you are in your life: the only thing that matters is that you have the willingness to try something new no matter what.
At the end of the day, in sewing as in life, it’s you and the right people surrounding you. Surround yourself with people that have a smile, a pencil, walk on hands, share your same passions, and good food.
You’ll soon learn to sew and to know that those have been two amazing days.
